Ulteig has expanded their Water Resources Group within the company’s Civil Sector. The team is composed of staff with specialized water and hydrology skills and is dedicated as a resource for projects across all six Ulteig offices. The Water Resources Group manages Ulteig’s flood control and flood damage reduction capabilities as well as the company’s expertise in hydrology/hydraulics and surface water management (including both water quantity and water quality planning and design).
The Water Resources Group is led by Ulteig Vice President Bruce Langness, PE, MBA, CFM. Langness, a Certified Floodplain Manager, has been instrumental in many projects throughout his 30 plus years with Ulteig. His work includes flood insurance rate studies, many LOMR, LOMA, and flood-proofing certifications and elevation certificates as well as other floodplain administration activities including several Municipal Engineering projects. Langness has published papers on flood-proofing practices of residential basements in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota. He's a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Association of State Floodplain Managers, Inc., Minnesota Groundwater Association, and the American Water Works Association and currently serves as a Technical Advisor for two large flood control projects in the Fargo/Moorhead area.
Langness says, "History shows that both flood frequency and flood intensity is on the rise. Coastal cities are looking at ways to manage sea levels that have steadily increased since the late 1800s. Rainfall data is being updated to reflect the large rainfall events of recent history. Locally it seems that protecting property for a 500 year flood is becoming the new standard. Water Resource engineers need to be ready to help clients manage excess surface water and improve water quality. Ulteig’s Water Resource Group provides that expertise.”
Ulteig Engineers Inc (www.ulteig.com) was founded in 1944 by Melvin Ulteig with the vision of bringing electricity to people in the rural Upper Midwest. Today, Ulteig is a nationally accredited company, ranking number 327 in the Top 500 Engineering Design Firms in the nation by Engineering News Record and among the top firms in electrical transmission and distribution services. The company is organized into Building Services, Civil, Energy, and Land Services sectors, employs more than 400 people, and has offices in Fargo and Bismarck, ND; Detroit Lakes and Minneapolis, MN; Sioux Falls, SD; and Denver, CO.
