“The only real valuable thing is intuition.”
-    Albert Einstein

As of late, the economic climate appears to be in a state of constant flux. Business owners are now scrambling to find the edge in a market challenged by the tightening grip of America’s proverbial pocketbook. What started as a slight change in the flow of commerce in certain arenas, seems now to have spread like wildfire in the collective consciousness of the entire country. Some businesses refuse to subscribe to the notion of a struggling economy. They hold their heads high above it all, and maintain the necessary focus that keeps their profits soaring. You may find yourself in the camp of this particular troupe of business owners. However, if you have found yourself succumbing to the consciousness known as lack in our economy, it can tend to feel like you are now putting out your S.O.S. as you start to feel a little lost on your own island, searching for help.

So what’s the difference between those who are soaring and their counterparts (perhaps including you) who are finding it nearly impossible to stay afloat? They are more than likely finding non-traditional methods of maintaining their profit margins and thensome. They are implementing tools such as the popular Law of Attraction, which states that you create everything around you based on your thoughts. Your thoughts create your world, so it is vital that you place thoughts on what it is you desire verses what you do not. However, how do you know where to put your thoughts if you feel yourself so stuck in a rut that the solutions are now more out of reach than ever? What if I told you that you were the only one to come to your own rescue? It is time for you to heed the S.O.S. call and seek refuge with no one other than yourself.

There is a wealth of insight, knowledge and wisdom inside each of us. When looking for the answers, businesses who have long outsourced assistance from “professionals” who claim to enter in and solve the problems like a chimney sweep are now resorting to good old fashioned intuition. In the information age, we have grown less dependant on ourselves for the answers. As business owners, we say things like “I’m not a marketing consultant” or “I don’t have an MBA, so how could I possibly know what the right thing is to do?”

The beautiful part of you is what you cannot get in school and that’s a built-in, already downloaded set of instincts and hunches that you are hard wired to access. No one else has the same “software” as you do. You are unique. Obviously you have listened in the past or you would not be where you are today nor would you be reading this article. However, continuing to keep the door open to that inner guidance is much like exercise…it takes devoted time and practice of flexing those intuitive muscles to maintain the consistent flow of it.

Every time you ignore that inner voice you make more work for yourself in the long run. Who cares what everyone else is doing? Continuing to ignore that divine wisdom over time adds up, and suddenly you feel as if you have been living someone else’s life, running someone else’s business. Here are some clues that tell you its time to stop and listen to your intuition.
1.    The hamster on the wheel is turning in your mind about a problem or decision and won’t stop.
2.    You hear yourself saying “If only someone could tell me what to do.”
3.    You ask others for their advice and the hamster gets back on the wheel, leaving you more confused then when you began.
4.    You find yourself ignoring phone calls and emails avoiding connection with others.

Stopping and becoming aware of the times you are running the hamster will have you being in action in a whole new light. Go in your office, close the door, be quiet and listen to your body’s signals that something is slightly off. Here are a few strong indications your intuition is kicking in.
1.    You notice things that seem like “coincidence” but that come along just at the right time. Stop to acknowledge it, it’s real.
2.    You feel motivated to do something by an invisible force you cannot explain.
3.    You feel a YUM or a YUK when you think about doing something. Go for the YUM as much as possible. You won’t regret it.

Business intuition should never replace things such as necessary market research or an adequate understanding of your field. However, if you are successful you already know there is more to it than that anyway. Television celebrity Oprah Winfrey once said, “follow your instincts. That is where true wisdom manifests itself.” Successful entrepreneur Bill Gates said, “often you have to rely on intuition.” American Spiritual Writer Eileen Caddy said, “cease trying to work everything out with your minds. It will get you nowhere. Live by intuition and inspiration and let your whole life be Revelation.”

The next time you feel you are in an S.O.S. situation regarding a business decision, take out a quarter. Heads represents solution A. Tails represents solution B. Give the quarter a toss. When it lands, see what side lands face up. Then check in with your intuition. Does the solution feel YUMMY or YUCKY? Be your best guide. If neither A nor B feels good inside (regardless of what anyone says), it may be a good clue that it’s time to go back to the drawing board for more solutions. Trust yourself. Give yourself and your business the edge it deserves. What are you waiting for? There is no one who can rescue you better than you.
